-Read the scale value at the intersection of the dark and light parts, at the point where they meet on the scale. It may be necessary to adjust the position of the light source to maximize the contrast of the shadow lines.
-Placing the instrument down and perpendicular to the light source is usually better for the best contrast.
-When you're done testing, be sure to dry the lens with a clean cloth (don't wash or rinse it), and place the instrument in the plastic case
