Gaming laptops have a unique identity of their own -- whether it’s the edgy looks or the flashy RGB lights that scream what they truly are. But then there are those that look something like a boring executive laptop while packing mean firepower under the hood.  IndiatimesAlso Read: HP Omen 15: Gaming Laptop With Powerful Hardware That Runs Any Game EasilyHP Victus 16 is one such machine, which stands at a striking difference from the company’s Omen lineup and packs some serious firepower under the hood. We got to play with the HP Victus 16 and here’s what we truly loved about it. Clean and subtle designFrom the moment you take it out of its box, the laptop will look nothing like a gaming machine. It’s got an all-matte look in a very subtle dark blue trim with a few glossy bits to break the monotony. Even though its use of a fibre body doesn’t feel very premium, it is one good looker, that’s for sure.  IndiatimesOpening the lid too shows no traits that are otherwise seen in gaming laptops -- the layout is conventional full-style with a number pad, as well as the choice of the font too isn't too flashy. It even has only white LEDs for the backlight  Good ports selectionVictus 16 has quite an impressive selection of ports partly thanks to its rather large size. To the left, you’ve got the power jack, an RJ45 Ethernet port, an HDMI port, one USB Type-A port, as well as a Thunderbolt 4 port, a headphone jack and an SD card slot. IndiatimesThe right side doesn’t get much though --  two additional USB Type-A ports. -- but still, it’s got almost all that you’d otherwise need.A colourful, sharp displayHP Victus 16 is packing an all-matte 16.1-inch full-HD panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The display is also packing a 144Hz refresh rate which makes the overall experience a lot smoother.  IndiatimesThe IPS panel is vibrant yet calming to look at, thanks to the panel’s low blue light feature. Also with 300 nits, the panel manages to get bright enough to be visible under direct sunlight. Also Read: Asus ROG Strix Scar: No-Compromise Gaming Laptop With No Performance HiccupsA powerhouse under the hoodThe variant we got our hands on featured an 11th generation Intel Core i7 11800H -- an eight-core processor with 16 threads -- paired with 16GB of RAM. For graphics, Victus 16 packs an RTX 3060 with 6GB of GDDR6 video memory. IndiatimesGaming with Victus 16 was truly fun, especially on full-HD resolution and high refresh rates -- a sweet spot for the processor and the GPU. Playing Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla on Ultra settings delivered over 65-68 fps on average, which is quite impressive.Forza Horizon 5 ran butter smooth with over 75 fps easily with all the settings maxed out. Battlefield V on ultra gave a good 72 fps. Competitive battle royale Fortnite ran at around 100fps on average. Overall a laptop with decent firepower that’ll run almost any game at 60+ framerates. Also Read: Dell G5 15: Perfect Gaming Laptop For Esports On A Budget IndiatimesFor someone looking to get a gaming laptop on a budget minus the flashy RGB light-fest that gaming laptops normally come with, while still looking cool, HP Victus 16 strikes the perfect balance.
